Low Sodium Bacon makes enjoying a slice or two a delicious possibility if you live a low sodium lifestyle. This list includes lower sodium options from a variety of sources.
Bacon is one of the first foods I mourned when my family started our low salt journey. One glance at the nutrition label of a traditional pack of bacon, and I knew it would be an unlikely fit with our new way of eating. One two-slice serving of Hormel Black Label Brown Sugar Thick Cut bacon contains 470 mg of sodium.
Thankfully, through research and lots of label-reading, I discovered that lower salt bacon exists, and our breakfast plates and BLTs are more delicious again! As with most low/lower sodium products, sodium content varies, so always check the label before purchasing.
What Do Low Sodium Labels Mean?
It’s essential to understand what low sodium labels mean. Lower sodium is not the same as low sodium. A lower sodium label means the product contains less sodium than the regular version, but less sodium can still be high sodium. Soy sauce is an excellent example of this. Reduced sodium soy sauce contains less sodium than traditional soy sauce, but even the reduced sodium version contains more sodium than most people on a low sodium diet should consume.
